the rose garden

the rose garden at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens yesterday, May 28th, looked as it does in late September. Everything was struggling, nothing was being deadheaded & I could hear the calls for rain. However, i was lucky enough to be there while the sun was low in the afternoon sky, casting its most precious golden light.

Oh my goodness, those are *beautiful* roses. I totally love the golden-orange-pink ones: my favourite colour.

  4. We are in a drought here in northern California. All the lovely things I planted last year died. 😦 We are not even allowed to water our grass since we live at a state fish hatchery!!

Oh, I feel so sorry for you. Alabama went through a sever drought a few years ago & I swear i felt the vegetation’s stress. I was so scared & helpless. I want to put up rain barrels to catch the water as it falls, but our gutters were removed during our house painting last year and as yet have not been replaced. We’ve had two solid days of a steady rain & I am so grateful. I am so sorry for you & I so wish you rain. Perhaps you could inside garden to lessen your stress? ~amy

      1. My art and writing are my stress relievers, but thanks for the idea. It gets so hot here in the summer that I don’t want the blinds open to let the heat in which means plants wouldn’t get enough light. I have one plant, an aloe vera, because it is so hardy. But that’s okay. Thanks for the suggestion, though! 🙂
