Are these all hand-made and local? They’re gorgeous!
I recently ventured into a shop that has always looked like it sold individually handmade items from local artists and crafters… only to find that almost all their stock is imported from the East. I suspect that the wrought iron candleholder I had just bought may not even be made of metal at all, but of some plastic made to look very convincingly like metal. I felt so cheated, and said as much.
The sales assistant shared my feelings, but said locally made items tend to cost faaaar more, and that they wouldn’t be able to sell enough of them. Isn’t that sad? It seems that people would rather buy fake-handmade stuff imported from the other side of the globe, than support talented and hugely creative local artists. I would always prefer the latter, even if it costs more.
Wonderful. I loved the shopping adventure. I always feel that your photos allow me to enter the quiet of these wonderful shops and receive blessings from the beauty of the art.
