a mother cannot help but fall in love with the friends that help children get through the hard times. this woman (today, officially) has been friends with my daughter through thick & thin since the 7th grade. M got her very long hair cut off today & donated it. I had to photograph her with her new look. I went for timeless…

Beautiful model, and the first photo is wonderful! Her pose, and the position of her arms and hands lead the viewer’s eyes to hers. The hat and her hair frame her face nicely, and the lighting provides almost the hint of a halo. The top strand of pearls echos and underscores the line of her chin. Great composition! Normally I prefer color photos, all else being equal, but you did such a super job setting up the shot that the color might distract. (Isn’t the next to last one the same, but with color?)

Wow. I really love how you see. I see it, but when i am shooting, I FEEL it. It comes from my heart, instinct to shoot anything. I’ve learned to trust it.
You are correct, the next to the last is the same with color. I took out the saturation to almost black & white to make the images seem a bit more timeless. To show her in character. A very vogue woman from…maybe the 1920s? Or the classic 1950s. She came in with my daughter to show me the new hair & I begged to shoot her, she tried to escape claiming homework. But I got her & she loves them. A great birthday gift to see ones self through the eyes of another…Thank you so much, John for sharing your thoughts with me. I learned to look at the image with your description in mind & it was cool to see it through your eyes. ~amy

  4. What a beauty, there is something royal about her features and at the same time has Chanel vibe, maybe the pearls and hat are the culprits for that vibe of timeless elegance.
