growing fire

this is a type of Gerber daisy I’ve never seen before. the stems were about 12″ tall, perfect for putting the blossoms in a vase. I found this at Leaf & Petal located in Cahaba Heights.

  2. I love gerberas, we’ve planted heaps in our garden this year and they are so bright and colourful. Very hard too which, from my perspective, is brilliant as I’m not a great gardener!

I love them too. The best advice I ever got about gardening was, “if its dying, move it! Its not always you, the plant may not be happy in the spot its been planted in” It got rid of the guilt of failure as a gardener. Lay blame on the sun & the dirt! I don’t understand though…you said they are hard to find– in nurseries or in your gardens? I don’t have an Gerber daisies in my yard because no matter where I put them, i don’t think they like all the shade my yard gets. So I stopped buying them. Although I may try again with the orange ones because of their long stems. ~amy

only on the keyboard. Ask my kids what I’m like! Besides, there are beautiful things that can grow in shade…have you ever seen hydrangea in your nurseries? I don’t remember ever seeing them while growing up in Vermont. Maybe its too cold. Mom always grew perennials against the house in Montpelier. They thrived for her. I got my love of gardening from her…among a thousand other things. ~amy

The best advice i ever got, when I first began to plant anything in the (red Alabama clay) dirt was, “if the plant begins to fade away, it is not happy in that spot, dig it up & move it.” See? Isn’t that great? It absolves me of all guilt! Which really means I cannot be held responsible if the plant is such a wimp. Unless i forget to water. πŸ™‚ ~amy

The kids got dismissed at 1:00 yesterday because local weather stations warned of the a storm hitting us @ 3:00…Enter in Murphy’s Law, exactly at 3:00 the sky turned blue. We did have rain at 9 but nothing like other states west or north of us. Thank you for thinking of me Gail…I’ll bet the storm is coming toward you, so YOU stay safe and dry. ~amy
