reflect your life in glass

I’ve said this a thousand times. But…here is 1,001. For our own self-preservation, support your local, privately owned businesses (no matter where you are). These owners are our neighbors. If they succeed, then we all do. Besides, life reflected in glass that is cylindrical, distorts it just enough to make it all the more beautiful. Art found @ Collier’s Nursery, Birmingham Alabama. I saw, I bought & my gardens look glorious while I wait for my perennials to grow in (so I can love on them.)

I collect green glass so of course I love these! And the sentiment, too. We have a campaign going on in our small town to shop local. We didn’t always think about it, especially when trying to save money, but after my husband opened his t-shirt shop it really opened our eyes. Now we try to do all the business we can within our community.

I love green glass! I never thought about collecting it. What a beautiful display that would make, lining the glass up beside a window…I must go shopping! Buying things from the big chains was what we did when we first got married because they could sell anything cheaper. We still do buy our big things (fridge, flooring…) from big stores. But when I look at the small gift shops, I realized that there was only the ONE version of this store, ANYWHERE. Well, then when my foot hit the floor there, I mattered more, everything mattered more, to everyone involved with the store. Even if I spend 10 dollars, I am helping to pay for someones one hour of work–an employee. I thought how much it mattered to have people walk through their door, because it meant success or sometimes survival. When i realized that, I started asking if I could feature their stores on my blog. Now I have people ask me too because of Linkedin–I try to follow all Birmingham business leaders, artists, photographers, publishers. These stores are set up a bit like art galleries, instead of grocery stores, so really it helps us both, i hope!! I wish your husband much success in his business. He is one of the brave ones. Thank you for your comment, Steph! ~amy

Exactly, and thank you. The green glass – I bought like one piece at a flea market, and then another, and then another, and people started giving it to me as gifts, and now I probably have over 200 pieces. Now I only buy the really different-looking ones, cause I have so many, lol!

WOw. Do you display them together? That would be a stunning sight for you to share! The same thing happened to my mother. She fell in love with Milk Glass & now has so much of it, it covers quite a bit of space in her house. I think I’ll start collecting dollar bills & see if people help me with my collection. 🙂 ~amy

Ha! Genius! Some are together and and some scattered about. I might have to do a “share your world ” type thing soon, to show off my lovelies.

Ugh, it will be. My perennials are taking their time to return to last years bounty. When they are, “absolutely enchanting” I will photograph them in all their life-giving beauty! The Nursery is an inspiring place to be. Thank you, Reggie! ~amy

I LOVE that. I may include that quote in another post from a local business. It is so important to us all. If our towns succeed, then we all do. Thank you for your comment & the quote! ~amy
