Hi Amy, thanks for that and I’m glad you will be active rather than passive about what you want to do. it’s good to grab the future before it becomes the past. For me, I realised that I wanted to spend my life doing the things I enjoy rather than the things I don’t.

I listened to an interview on the BBC a while back about a surgeon who worked in war torn places. He was coming up for retirement and the interviewer asked him what he would do when he retires. The surgeon said he would work until he could no longer work as he enjoyed it so much. This wasn’t the interesting part of the interview though. The surgeon quietly added that patients of his that were on their death beds more often than not said they just wanted more time to do the things they loved with the people they loved. For me, this was a powerful interview and I think about it from time to time to remind me to grab the future while I can.

On a different note, you’ve got me thinking about sharing and learning. It’s probably not possible to have one without the other? Without learning we could argue there is no future and history has shown that learning and ideas are better shared than burned.

I’m hope that I haven’t come across as a bit mad here 😉 cheers, k

I just reread your note, Kevin. I don’t remember if I replied or not. I’m having to go back into a different direction b/c wordpress says I had 155 unanswered comments. So if I have already replied, forgive me & “I hope that I haven’t come across as a bit mad here”-Kevin Hill. Ha. No never mad. Your comment is important & I’ve heard this before, as I’m sure most of us have heard it in one way or another. The choices we make on a daily basis, when looked at in retrospect, seems as though we misstepped during our healthy lives. We all know that our time will end, but it is something way out of reach for most of us. I hope to spend more time doing things I love & being with people I love more then anything else. I hope that when I reach the end of my life, I remember to remind myself everyday was lived in the moment & maybe the people I loved were busy or I was. We all try to live by the words of those who left before us, following their advice…But without having lived before, we must learn as we go & take everyday as it comes & hope to make the best of us. -the mad hatter, Amy Saab. I hope you are doing well, Kevin. 🙂

I love this. It brings back memories of early morning training. I used to race Ironman Triathlon until hoofed off my bike by an idiot in a car. Great Shot!

Geez…Kevin. That is a major life change. I hope your injuries were not too bad. Life is wonderful, but can change in a blink & we have to learn to recreate ourselves. I have a broken pelvis. I was fine & then…I had to change me. Nice to meet you, Kevin. ~amy

Hi Amy, just knee and ankle damage which stops me training and racing. Not on the same scale as #pelvis. I hope you’ve recovered fully. Yes, life is wonderful and when one door closes another opens. This seems to be the way of things. I’m enjoying seeing your photos online. Lots of fabulous images, keep them coming. Cheers, Kevin.

Hi Kevin. Recovered as much as I can. Other door just barely closed, so I’m looking for another to open. I wonder…should I wait for it or make the door myself? Your work is absolutely stunning & I will look forward to seeing you in my reader. Cheers, amy

Hi Amy, its good to hear you’ve done what you can. I think its good to make your own luck. I was until recently finishing a PhD off and after four years I decided it wasn’t for me and swapped the lab coat for a rain coat and invested more time in my photography and I’m loving it. So, I guess I belive in opening those doors myself rather than waiting for them to be opened for me. Comments like yours help me to belive I did the right thing so thank you very much! I do hope you don’t mind my openness. Cheers, kevin.

Thank you for that. I think i will make my own door. I will no longer be passive about what may come. I will make it happen. Just like you did. Dr. Hill gave it all up to photograph the world as he see it. If it fills you with fulfillment it is far better then to fill a bank account with no joy. I know great things will come to you as you show the world what you see. So few see the world as you do. Make a door to bring profit along with your gift. Let me know how you do that. I can learn from you. I love finding other’s in this world who share the same passions without feeling envy, but inspiration. you inspire me. ~amy
pen pals should be open, how else can we learn from one another?
