black-eyed peas & okra, anyone?

my husband went to a friend’s farm yesterday & brought home okra…this yankee has no idea what to do with either one. black-eyed peas & okra is a VERY Southern food. the squash is not edible anymore, too many seeds i’ve been told.

yesterday’s pick. i bring the BIG tomatoes in just as they begin to turn red because in Alabama heat, if left outside to ripen, they boil & burst. πŸ™‚ besides, green tomatoes are DELICIOUS! We put them on our pizza, pastas, BLT’s or we leave them to ripen on the kitchen table.

i’ve got the Monday blues

lucky me. it took me 15 minutes to pick the blueberries this morning. it took about 3 minutes for our family of five to eat half. the tomatoes & one strawberry came out of the gardens today too.  

I asked for the sun, he delivered

My husband took down some trees to bring more light into the gardens. This man i married can build me flower beds, carry 30 bags of dirt in which to fill them. & he can bring me the sun.

My husband built another raised bed for me. 30 bags of dirt & an hour or two for him to build me a new one. Some women love jewelry or shoes. Me? Anything to do with my gardens will bring me happiness. Β The last image is the creek that borders our property. I hang in…
