Happy 3rd birthday to my grapevines. I love that the leaves emerge from their brown vine as pink. This year, I hope this delivers me at least ONE grape & I happen to see it before the birds do.
LOVE this shot! All those lines and diagonals and wood and the perfect pink bud.
I guess squirrels or mice got the bulbs? I planted Elephant Garlic and every night a mouse dug each one up, carried it a little way and nibbled it. It was so funny. I had to keep replanting it.
Do you have Holly where you are? Or a prickly, spikey shrub? When I plant anything that I don’t want to be dug up I place some Holly leaves around them, then put the soil on top. It deters predators.-Karen
Thank you for the tip! I do have some furry little thieves come & take a nibble! We have Holly bordering our yard with one neighbor, I will try your trick. Hobbes, the cat, helps a great deal with keeping some animals away. I can’t believe a mouse would eat garlic! I planted some of my cloves last week & they are already an inch high! Yum, garlic is in almost everything I make. I love to smash it, great therapy! ~amy
My grapes should be dark purple. I’ve been very patient waiting for its third year. But if I have to wait for another year or two, it will be worth it, because when it fills in on the trellis it shares with my Joseph’s Coat Roses, it should be breathtaking. Thank you for your compliment & seeing it how I did. ~amy

Precious leaf and gorgeous picture. Such a contrast between the rough wood and the delicate bud ! Will your grape be red or white ?

Good luck with that! You’ll need to watch those vines like a *hawk*. 😉
