Birmingham, Alabama downtown train

When the politicians speak of infrastructure, people shrug it off as, "not talking about me" but I drove over this bridge after photographing under it, believing that it wouldn't crumble under my weight. But that is naive to think it will not happen to me. It is naive to believe that this bridge will remain standing as it has since the day it was built. But look at the repairs made to the most left column. It must have been made of steel & very strong at one point. But it looks as though someone covered the steel beam with concrete. Concrete has water in it. Birmingham, Alabama becomes a sauna during the summer. Did an engineer sign off on this repair? Has our city's been patched up because nobody wants to pay to fix it? I would like it very much if our city could be put to rights. I would love to repair the falling down history of our infrastructure...give people the jobs & pride in fixing our patched up, falling down Birmingham. Oy. The taxes on my milk is 9%. Fix the city before it crumbles to ashes
When the politicians speak of infrastructure, some people shrug it off as, “not talking about me” but I drove over this bridge after being under it, believing that it wouldn’t crumble under my weight. But it is naive to believe it won’t happen to me. It is criminal to shrug off the fact that the bridge will fall & do nothing about it. Who will be under it when it does fall?  It is naive to believe that this bridge will remain standing as it has been since the day it was built?  Do you see the ‘repairs’ made to the most left column? It must be made of steel.  It must have been very strong, once. It looks as though someone covered the steel beam with concrete. Concrete has water in it. Birmingham, Alabama becomes a sauna during the summer. Did an engineer (really) sign off on this repair? Has our city been patched up because nobody wants to pay to fix it? When the bridge falls & kills people, do you think family members won’t sue the City of Birmingham?  We (I dislike the expression, but I love its implications) need to Man Up & repair what we KNOW will fail, before it becomes a tragedy. (Birmingham Alabama needs not to be in the National Spotlight for negative news again) I pay 9% tax on my milk. I think I’ve already paid to have it fixed.   Birmingham came into being because of the Iron Ore in our earth. It was mined from Red Mountain. It was forged into steel beams to help build our nation. We have the god of forge standing butt naked overlooking the city of Birmingham. If Vulcan were living, he would have turned his backside to the city. I think he would have been justified in doing so.  Just sayin’

You’re right about infrastructure. Our country doesn’t make it a high priority. Obama tried but Congress pretty much shut him down.
