Well done. This stunner is four houses down from my house. I believe it is a Japanese Magnolia, but not positive. If you do know the name, please inform me of it?
The fat buds are like exotic birds in the tree! I agree, the soft grey of the trunk and branches and the contrasting blossoms must make this whole sight a total joy to see when you pass by. Aren’t we lucky to get such joy from one tree?! Think what fun we are going to have this Spring and Summer with so much blossom to come!-Karen.
I’ve never heard that name before. I know the lighter pink/white is a Japanese Magnolia b/c I’ve seen the signs at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, but this tree blossoms right now (3-20-14).
You are correct! It is a Japanese Magnolia. They come in many varieties ranging from all white, white/pink and this brilliant color that you have captured. Soooo pretty.
I have a friend who had a photo show (competitively selected) with photos she took with just her phone! Just start taking pictures — use whatever you have. A good camera helps, but you can get good pictures with a basic camera if you have a good eye (or crappy pictures with a super camera!) Good luck!!
You said it. That is how i feel about it every time I leave my driveway & look to the left. They only last about a week. But they do pack a punch! Thank you, eva! ~amy
Amazing tree, Veronica. The branches are grey so that when seen along with the vibrancy of the blossoms, it sort of batters the senses, well, mine anyway :). I LOVE this tree. Thank you so much. ~amy

Reminds me of what people around here call a tulip tree.

I took this today in Northport! I think they are either magnolia soulangeana or campbellii. I’ll let you know if I get a clearer answer! http://maryzworld.wordpress.com/2014/03/20/another-magnolia-soulangeana-or-campbellii/
