Daily Prompt: Never gonna give you up

Today’s challenge is to find a vice one doesn’t like in another. I’ve chosen, instead, to write about my own vice. Anyone in my company will soon find that I am scanning my surroundings for “images begging to be taken”. Life surrounds us all, but my vice is the need to capture every bit of it.  If I am invited to an event, I envision my past experience of being there. I remember the light in the rooms, I remember the sun, the time of day & the weather.  I remember the objects that told stories. I sometimes remember these objects i’d captured in the past, but failed to bring it to life. Blame it on the sun or the rain. This is me. I see everything. I look for what I want & then, I take it. A photograph is a form of ownership, is it not?   I capture these possessions, like a thief with permission. Perhaps it is a vase on a shelf, bathed in northern sunlight on a western wall, in the 2nd bedroom on the left. I remember all of it. I see it in my mind. I will make this vase mine. And sometimes this possession I’ve taken, is better then the one I’ve left behind.  The subject is important, but it isn’t worth a damn if the light isn’t right. Blame it on the sun or be grateful for it. Who knows what the day will bring & what i can take from it.

But at least I’ve got you to share it with. ~me
