i’ve been teaching photography to my son. I told him the sun casts different colors of light throughout the day (& year) I told him that shadows are the blues. This bronze statue stands in a fountain in front of the Birmingham United Methodist Church @ 5 points South, in downtown Birmingham. My son hadn’t been to this part of town in years & I hadn’t realized how sheltered he was to the mass confusion of our city. He had never seen such a grand old church so close or a homeless man sleeping on the grass in the middle of the afternoon…he has never seen the fountain with sculptures of animals listening to a ram tell a story. While I was taking pictures- he is looking everywhere at once. Stunned. Motorcycles came barreling up the hill, their engines screaming like thunder…the contrast of sight & sound was hitting my son like hard rain. He loved it. I’m going take him out of our tiny neck of the woods & show him the crazy bunch of mixed up people we have here in Birmingham. His photography will reveal how he sees his part of the world.
This one made me say Wow! out loud!
