art class drop cloth

i used this drop cloth for every art class i taught for five years. it was my intent to have someone stretch it & frame it- it is canvas, but to my unbelievable disappointment…my very bad cat peed on it while i was in the hospital for a few days. revenge, i guess. i was unable to wash it because most of the paint was used by kids ages 3 and up, which means i used washable tempera paints. at least i have some pictures of it. a lost treasure. so much love put into that canvas by so many artists…

  1. More than a decade ago I lived with a cat that managed to squeeze out 22 years on the planet. She was a drop in at 9months and a wonderful cat. At 21years she began peeing on my framed paintings in a closet. She was pretty much blind and deaf by then and didn’t walk very well. I was facing having to put her down. Restoring those paintings was a big job. I remedied the situation by installing another litter box so that she wouldn’t have to walk too far. That did it. She used the new litter box in that end of the house. You are right….your cat may have been upset by your leaving. I have found that whenever an animal wants to let you know something that is not copasetic they tend do something destructive.

I am so sorry about your paintings, they couldn’t have been watercolors…right? Yes, I do think that Hobbes did it when I started going in & out of hospitals. I found a bag today in the art studio, that held note books for teaching Jewish holiday art projects to grades K-6…they were all peed on. Good thing i no longer need them.

22 years is a very long time to have a cat. All the cats that have been perfect & dug deep into my heart, died young. My Walter made it to 9 years old. I cannot think of him. He has been gone three years & I still haven’t mourned him. I set up a road block in my brain. Hobbes makes me angry, he has ruined hundreds of dollars worth of furniture & wall paper…so he will live forever. Isn’t that how life works? ~amy

your comment confuses me~”send in your photo & please share” means what? I’m glad you like it. I do agree with ‘dang cats’. although my language was far more R rated when I discovered what he had done. 🙂

So sorry, Amy! I understand the sentimental value of it would have to be very high.
But a cat is a cat. Like you say, at least you have some pictures of it.
    Hope you feel better 🙂
    Cheers,
