My son & I were driving to the grocery store. When we pulled out onto the main road, we were behind a BMW, in front of the BMW was a dark blue NEW Ferrari! We were peeking around the BMW to watch that piece of metal silk driving on the same road we do, when H. screams, “MOM, A RACE CAR! A RACE CAR! A REAL ONE! IT’S GOT THE NUMBER 6 ON IT!” I see this car at the Shell gas station. We pull in the station, blocking 4 people & I get out with my iPhone. The coolest man ever says, “Tell your son to come & sit in the drivers seat”

That was indeed a chance of a lifetime. That is the most important race car in US racing history (it’s probably a modern replica but who cares). It’s the car that Ford built in order to beat Ferrari at Le Mans. Ford wanted to buy Ferrari but at the last moment Enzo backed out. Ford then spent an obscene amount of money on the GT40. It took a couple of years but they did eventually beat Ferrari at Le Mans. Gulf were a major sponsor of sports cars in those days.

Wow! Thank you for sharing all of this info! My husband knew from his iPhone that it was a ford, I was impressed with him. I will read this info to my son, he would love, even more, that he got to sit in one. The man was a treasure to invite my son, a stranger, to sit in his car.
