Lenten Roses do great in the South 🙂 Lowe’s & Home Depot usually carry them in their garden department.

Wow, you really know your stuff! I just know that I love it! We were going to have a deep freeze-would the blossoms make it through that? -amy

      1. Yes, they are very winter hardy! I never have to do anything with them except to fertilize them before they bloom!

You can collect its seeds if there is any and grow them, it will take some time but you can hybrid them with the color you like! It is fun to grow from seeds and have nice surprise when the next generation flower!

I will grow the seeds, I see where they could be on the flower. Are the balloon things of four? Are those were the seeds are?
I don’t think I could hybrid them, not that knowledgable at all.
        Thank you! -amy

      3. Yes, the center of flower, when polinated, they will inflat, those balloon things…

To hybrid two different varieties A and B: when B flower just start to open, get poline from A (different color / variety), use clean paint brush to transfer poline to flower just open. Trim away the stamen of B and cover that flower of B — this way insures only the poline you transfered from A will make seeds.

The hybrid is A(male)xB(female),if these seeds grow and flower create new flower color or habit then you get to name this hybrid variety, maybe with your or your love one’s name.

Really, this is how it is done?!. My son would love to do this. Ever since he got into Merlin on BBC, he has been into herbs & gardening. There is a physician on the show & my son always listens to what herbs do what & how to make medicines. Not that I will let him try any. Thank you for this info. I can’t wait to share it. He can learn to be a botanist this summer.
