one of the greatest gifts i’ve ever received

A box was delivered today to me by courier. The gift was given to me by my husband’s 2nd cousin, Carlo H. Joseph III. The bronze piece was sculpted by hand (unknown how many were cast from his original wax sculpture) by my Great Grandfather, Louis Rosenthal

I was blown away & wish to shout from the roof tops at Carlo’s generosity & thoughtfulness. He included a brief note, “I had to get this for you to have for future generations so they never forget the millions that suffered & died.”

The last image is a part of my family tree…beside my name is my Great Aunt, her husband & their six children…who died during the holocaust. This piece was created in 1938. This piece now sits above my fireplace to be passed onto my children, so they never forget.

I will make sure they never forget who gifted us this treasure.

Thank you, Carlo.

  2. It is an incrediable story of your family history. It is obvious that it is a treasured family heirloom. I find the gift being giving to you is even more fitting, because of your love of art and your continuation of making art and your talent. You continue your family heritage in more than one way.

Thank you so much for your lovely comment. You said everything exactly right. What makes it so wonderful is that it was created by a member of my side of the family (Jewish) & given to me by a member of my husband’s family (Catholic). That makes it so, so, so incredibly perfect. Thank you, Honey! ~amy

      1. I didn’t get that your husbands family member had given it to you. I thought it was passed down from your side of the family. It was brought back into your family. Amazing!
