Origami box holds love

DSC_0006 DSC_0007 DSC_0011

My mom makes origami boxes for a few locally (#buylocal!) owned businesses in Birmingham. Our family has a few boxes each because she always included a small gift, like jewelry, inside a box for birthday gifts. I have my boxes displayed on my shelves.

Yesterday my son needed an envelope, I wished him luck getting the wooden box that contained the envelopes out of my haphazard shelves. Remember your childhood art room? Controlled chaos? He succeeded in getting to the envelopes & while doing so, he found this box.

I had forgotten where I put the books. I remember she had given them to me, one was written by my father, the other written by herself. My son came into the kitchen last night with my treasure & Β he pulled the small books the box had kept safe for me. Needless to say it was an outstanding (re)discovery. I couldn’t believe I’d just put it away & not made the box a spot of honor in the china cabinet.

After I took the photos (throw back thursday) I put the box where it belonged, in the china cabinet. I tucked the words written on the pages, into my heart.

It felt like my birthday all over again. (I love you, Mom & Dad)

If I lived close by I would be rushing out to buy one of these gorgeous boxes! And the little books! So special! I buy little books all the time for writing down thoughts, feelings and ideas. Your Mom makes very special things too; just like you.-Karen

πŸ™‚ I make special things just like my mom. She has the coolest art studio ever. She works with fused glass & makes wonderful things. I have quite a few. She is very talented & I am very grateful for all that she has taught me. Thank you, Karen. ~amy

  3. I would replace Tiffany boxes in a minute for something your Mom makes, those are the treasures you will cherish forever “made by Mom and Dad”, now that is absolutely priceless!!!

Oh Jan, I’m such a cry baby. I couldn’t believe I had tucked something so precious away & forgot about it. But maybe I needed to find it again, just to weep over what they had written to me. A gift given twice. Thank you for your sweet comment. ~amy
