best surprise ever

Henry, my son, was first introduced to Greek mythology via Disney’s ‘Hercules’.  He has seen, “Clash of the Titans” & this past Sunday we all snuggled deep in covers & popcorn & watched “Wrath of the Titans”.

This past week, at his school, they have had authors come & read their books to the children.  The children could buy copies of these books, signed by the author. Henry had come home everyday recounting his memories of what these authors has spoken about.

He called me on Thursday, he had a headache, he wanted me to bring him an advil. When I arrived at school- it was his lunch time. They unlocked the door & sent me to the cafeteria to find him. But first there was the library with the sign about the authors coming. I went in to see what book the children would hear today.

OMG. (i know, I’m way too old to be using OMG, but, really…OMG) The author had written a series of books about the Olympians- they were graphic novels (expensive comic books) there were books about Zeus, Athena, Hera, Hades, Poseidon, Aphrodite.  I asked the liberians if I could buy two & have the author surprise him by calling his name to come & meet him & watch him autographed his books.  The author is George O’Connor. He signed Henry’s books & drew a picture of each of the main heroes.  I bought him Zeus & Poseidon.

Hobbes didn't like anything getting photographed other then HIMSELF.

I then went in search of Henry on the playground (lunch ended while I was in the library) I could barely contain my excitement!! The rest of the day was long…

He finally came home & he was unable to formulate the words to express his surprise & gratitude. So he just squeezed me very, very hard & couldn’t stop talking about how he found out. He told me he didn’t understand why the author called him up to see him. Everything that happened was a wonderful experience.

Mr. O'Connor signed all book with a quick illustration of the main character.
