I started snickering at this photo as we once watched a ham-fisted neighbour try to break up an ant’s nest. In Australia they are wide and very deep, so we watched with deep interest as our neighbour poked at the nest with a stick, then made a few half-hearted stabs with a spade, then jumped up and down, and then started howling and ran inside as the ants ran up his leg and started biting. In Australia you get bull ants, dirty great ants which are really aggressive. I got bitten on my toe by one once and it was excruciating. Plus it hung on for grim death until I managed to knock it off.

Ants are very mean in Alabama. I grew up with both black & red ants. Vermont’s black ants were harmless. The red were a bit scary because they came at you if you bothered them. Alabama has fire ants, which chase & bite (excruciatingly painful venom) Still, this photograph is stunning. ~amy

Not all–i love looking at the world through other photographer’s posts & sometimes, I “reblog” them. 99.98 percent are my photographs. The ones i’ve reblogged usually have a white vertical line with the blogger’s photo…I found the ant photograph this morning & was stunned by it. Love, amy
