True Art is unique and creative. These are all the same. Too much of it done by teacher so it looks nice. That is not fostering creativity.

ummm…I agree with you as far as art needing to be unique & creative. These are examples of having 30 kids for 20 minutes- the project having to be about Jonah & the whale. Because these were for our Temple’s wall for the rest of the month, I cut out each child’s colored & watercolored whale, i did do it so it looked nice-for members. I asked the kids to grab whatever pastel colors they wanted & make up designs in the limited space, then used watercolor- we only had three colors b/c this type is expensive…The lesson in art was that oil & water do not mix…This is an example for art teacher’s who are dictated by time/amount of children & subject. Nurturing creativity – just great. In my day, creativity was often stifled in favor of rote learning. This generation will be better than the one that came before it… 🙂

Only the ones that know me!!! 🙂 I’m Joking!! But it was Rabbi Scott that started an art department for Hebrew school & put me charge of the art while he gave the lesson plans. Now the art studio is the biggest classroom in the Temple!
