What do you say at a funeral?

“Rabbi Jonathan Miller of Temple Emanu-El in Birmingham, Alabama shares a recollection of ordinary people and his eulogies for them at the time of their death. ¬†The people remembered here were not famous. They were ordinary folks, like most of us. ¬†Brought together in a small Southern Jewish community, these ordinary people paint a pictures…

Union Soldiers in Alabama

This is my son. I describe his eye color as ‘sunlight through Vermont Maple Syrup” the last image is my favorite because you can see his dimples are big enough to park a boat in. Henry is a total mutt-a Yankee, Jewish, Democrat, artist, photographer mom & a Southern, Catholic, Republican, engineer/sales dad. I titled…

This is Zohar, he was made by Louis Rosenthal & as scary as he may look

He never scared me. The story was this man was trapped in a cave with a pin hole sized hole allowing light for him to read & write by, but he had to move the book each sentence at a time. This is what I remember, I don’t know if that is the important part or even correct part. But it’s the part that my memory holds when I was told as a little girl. I thought even though he is suffering & alone, he can still read stories. As you know, a good story can take you out of your time & plant you in another, a book can be a time machine, a book can stop time. A book can make you understand who you are or who you want to be. I never watch tv…sounds snobby, but I used to, but my husband wanted to flip channels during commercial & then would want to start watching something thats almost done. GRRRRR! So he watches t.v. on the couch. I go to my room snuggle in & I’m gone.
