My children see me as Justice, blindfolded, holding the scales. Who is right, what is fair? Sometimes they see me wearing a black & white shirt with a whistle between my teeth. But what they mostly hear, was Bill Cosby, who said it best, “We don’t care who did it, we just want quiet.” I’ve…

Ya’ll like your Georgia Peaches?

I LOVE fruit & veggie stands. Food from the trees, from the vine picked within the last few hours. The human’s first grocery stores were like this. Going to market. No real tax, no one in the 10 items or less with a full cart of food, who seems impervious to everyone’s eyes set on death ray. So peaceful. What?! No credit cards?! I don’t have any cash, who carries cash?
Hi Walmart, I can buy my fruits & veggies here for more $$, more pesticides, more bumps & squishy parts from being passed from one hand to another across oceans, on shipped devouring oil & polluting our children’s oceans. But walmart takes credit cards, so eat your *#@* veggies & don’t forget to wipe the pesticides off your veggies & onto your shirt
stand up straight, your picture is being taken

There are a million of us, who cares about us?
Picking names for flavors must be fun @ Ben & Jerry’s

This is an iPhone picture. I wonder if I ordered on of these flavors, if I could get a ticket for profanity. Yummy ice cream. I took this at the Ben & Jerry’s factory in Waterbury, Vermont.
Get Better soon cards via Sunday school kids

I taught k-6 to express themselves through art. Not like at regular school. We learn to use different materials making new things. We try to figure out together how something will work. We tell stories from the Torah, or make decorations so our holiday’s shine. The kids have taught me not to worry about the end of the work, but to focus on the now, they taught me to enjoy how paint between my fingers feels.
When entering the most magical of art rooms in the city of Birmingham, all troubles stop before entering. Only children with imaginations are allowed in this special space designed to create our own worlds, to become brave Maccabees or King David, We create God’s seven days, We can float on a boat with Noah gathering his animals & letting loose the dove. Stories stick better when they come along with an personal art.
I hope someday I will teach art again, to walk into that room & feel it in my bones that I’m supposed to be there.
Love to all my card makers. I miss you all very much. The cards are a treasure that I will carry with me forever & take out when I feel blue. Or remind my bones, they need to paint!
What we do for love

Blue is an 8 year old Husky. We have had to buy a new vacuum cleaner every two years because of his fur. This twice-a-year shedding lasts for two weeks. Is he worth finding white fur in your soup or in your hair, on your black clothes before going out. Is he worth it to have to apologize to everyone who visits, ironically dressed in black?
Yes. Blue believes he is responsible for me & my children while my husband travels. Blue helps me tuck the kids in their beds & kisses them goodnight. Blue waits by the window watching for the kids to come home from school. Blue cleans up the food off the kitchen floor. Blue hears things I never could. He makes me feel very safe. He sleeps on his bed in my room. Blue is my guardian angel on earth. Blue holds my fur-covered heart in is paws.
prayerbooks arrive

It took four woman working for a year to get this book finished in time for the 125 anniversary of Temple Emanu-El. Robin made sure we were on the same page, Cantor Roskin practically lived at my parents house working on the Hebrew. And I painted & painted 30 8x10s. My mother put it all together with her talents in graphic design. This prayerbook will be held in my grandchildren’s hands. Something to pass on. If you wish to purchase the book, you have to contact Marianne @ Temple Emanu-El Birmingham, Al. Cool beans, Huh?
The Lions of Judah

Crooked, but the painting was curling, because I had now been scanned. I love their tales sitting outside the border lines. They are holding up a tapestry of Shabbat items.
Painted by Me.
Maybe i’ll have a coke?
Downtown Birmingham has gone through many changes, both with its people & its architecture. When I drive around & look at the sides of buildings, they are different from the front. Its as though companies want to put a modern look on the front, but leave part of its past showing. That is one reason…
The human face
I am known, by few, as a causal family photographer. I am cheap, after editing all the pictures (which takes bloody hours) I burn families the whole shoot on CDs, even the candid ones (which are the best anyway). For $100. Sad, really. But the thing is I worry & worry that they will hate…
