This zebra will spin for the rest of his days

When the artist carved the zebra, why did he make him look as though he is fighting to be free? His mouth is open, neck pulled in, fighting against his bonds. He was made to bring children joy. I wonder if anyone notices this animal they ride, wants to be free.
Yes, I know the zebra is not real, but the feeling it evokes in me is. :p
Wings to fly
This picture was taken on a pier somewhere in Florida, by a kind stranger, old enough to know we could out run him if he chose to take my camera with him. I look happy here, go figure. I think it was because my youngest still loved to snuggle & looked at me as though…
a bragging post

My 16 year old daughter was asked to enter a contest as a costume designer by her drama teacher. These are practice drawings. I am so very proud of her.
White silver king corn…a rather ambitious name to live up to.

It is corn, one that made it through a drought looking quite yummy. Any corn that makes it through the drought should be honored & eaten. Maybe even knighted by this king. 🙂
The State of our Union

Even our Union is broken. Congressman & woman fight with one another, who do they work for? Us, not the money, vote them out, the ones who refuse to compromise, vote them out of office, no matter their party. I am married to my opposite, but we’ve learned to compromise with each other. Because we are grown ups. Because we love each other & what we are, a family. We (it is ‘we’ isn’t it? People & the land are ‘we’), as a country, are giving up & pulling out. I drive down our roads & there is nothing to see but FOR SALE signs. This is NOT who we are. We have families, we have homes with friends & dogs & cats & birds & fish… These are the things that define who we are, do you really want to sell WHO we are? But who am I to say this? Nobody, really. I’m just one vote. But I’m paying attention & these ribbons say it all.
Bowl of Ugly tomatoes

I bought ugly tomatoes because they did not appear ripe, I always try to buy green tomatoes to ripen at home, that way they taste picked. I doubt you can buy green tomatoes in the North, down here they fry them & when done right, they are heaven. Whole foods used to have a BLGT sandwich at their lunch/dinner counter that my friend, Amy & I would go to eat when we got together, that sandwich was so worth the 10 dollar price. Ugly tomatoes are juicy, but taste funny to me. But they sure were pretty in the bowl.
Me & Sophie got to touch Vulcan the GIANT statue that stands over looking Birmingham
This is Vulcan, the the Roman god of Forge. Birmingham was formed as an industrial city in 1871. The area of the city was very special because it had coal, iron ore & Limestone, the raw materials for making iron & steel. I don’t really know the history, but I know that…
