My kids gave me flowers & a card this morning. They were really beautiful (and what they’ve always gotten me, a tradition) I didn’t expect anything else. The hugs that came with them were the best part.
My daughter started making lunch while i was reading in the living room. My daughter loves to cook so i sort of expected her to make us lunch. My son brought me a wine glass full of red…cranberry juice (He called it some french name), while i waited for lunch. BUT…instead of calling me into the kitchen, the kids walk past me, toward the front door. Sophie is holding a recyclable grocery bag & Henry has three drinks in his hand.
“Alright, let’s go” They say.
My daughter drove us in her car (she let me play MY music!!!). Sophie took us to her favorite park. We found a picnic table & Sophie started pulling things out. Turkey BLTs with avocado, toasted on whole wheat & pasta. THEN she pulls out my grandmother Michal’s green glass plates (see below)!!! I gasp…because…yeah, they’re over 50 years old. Surprise!!
We had an unwelcome guest appear…
No, Henry did not hit the goose. That was just in case it decided to bite one of us. The food & company was wonderful. When we’ve finished eating. We talk for a bit.
Then Sophie says, “We got you some junk.”
“Yeah, from the gas station” Says Henry.
“It’s really gross…do you really want it?” asks Sophie.
“Yeah, you may not like it” Says Henry
I have no idea what they could’ve gotten me from a gas station. I assumed it was edible. Now, understand this…for my birthday, they wrapped chicken McNuggets in gift wrap & ribbon. (They bought me really nice birthday gifts too) So, i guessed this was another joke gift.
“Yeah, i guess so…” says I.
Sophie quickly places a box in front of me. I am staring at it, trying to process what i’m seeing. The box says ‘Kate Spade’. WHAT?! It was a watch. My son tells me it is a smart watch. He knows me really well…he takes my phone & the watch. He downloads the app & fixes everything for me. I gotta say, i cried like a baby.
Both kids work. And both save money. Sophie picked this out to go with her Kate Spade purse she bought herself. She said she wanted us to match.
Wow. BEST. MOTHER’S. DAY. EVER. All the thought they put into planning this. I had no idea. I am so grateful for them. I am so proud of them. And I’m so damn lucky.
All you moms out there, remember the bad days pass just like the good days do. Treasure the good ones & learn from the rest.
Happy Mother’s Day!
So cool! Goofy, great kids.
