have i gone mad?

or is this mirror filthy?!

i found the mirror at the thrift store for $30. it had been painted an ugly brass color. i chose high gloss white for the frame, to put on the white walls of the studio. i have yet to buy straight edged blades to scrap off the paint…

the cheshire cat? oh, him. i was commissioned to create Alice in Wonderland characters for a teenage class. I drew him on matt board & painted him as an example…then i used his body as a stencil on more matt board for the kids to paint themselves. mine doesn’t really glow like this, i did that with editing. HOWEVER, i did get him to shine by adding some super fine glitter by Martha Stewart.

This is what he looks like most of the time…

you can see that he still shines in this underexposed photo. I painted his stripes w/ blue/green acrylic & while the paint was wet, i added silver, light blue & wee bit of light green glitter. After it dried, i covered him in a high gloss varnish. He lives in my art studio. A PERFECT place, i would say.

“have i gone mad? I’m afraid so, you’re entirely bonkers, but i’ll tell you a secret, all the best people are” describes most artists, does it not?

Here is another quote–

“Imagination is the only weapon in the war against reality” which is why i hide in my books.

This one reminded me about introducing the gap year to my children, if they didn’t know what they wanted to study at University…

“which road do i take?” She asked

“where do you want to go?” responded the Cheshire Cat

“I don’t know” Alice answered.

“then” said the cat “it doesn’t matter”

Julie!!! I was so excited to find it. Ive been shopping for big mirrors for a few months. The big ones i liked were too expensive. I spent $30 on this treasure. I am a sucker for thrift shopping because i can find something unique & i can change to fit me & my tastes, it really makes my day. Thank you, Julie! ~amy

  3. You are suggesting there was sanity to begin with. Stop it!

The reason art is created. You may appreciate my # 5 as well.

I am an artist, published! My work can be found in the Library of Congress. If you scroll to the bottom of my blog, you’ll see a slide show of some of my paintings. Although my favorite commissions have to do with children! AND thank you! ~amy
