this Memorial Day.

This Memorial Day, please remember to thank the men & women who have fought for this country. The soldiers are the reason you can grill your hot dogs & wash them down with beer.

Some bellow, with profound arrogance & unbelievable stupidity (a prevalent combination today) “I’m American, get out of my country” “This is America, learn to speak English”.  Those who shout the loudest are usually the biggest cowards. So proud of being American, but in such an ugly, harmful & hateful way. Its so easy to be mean & ugly. Its much harder to respect your fellow American- no matter what they look like.

Here is the thing, if you love your country so much, put on a uniform & fight for it.

flags 2

These flags represent my children’s heritage. These are the countries their ancestors came from. Most of those people came to this country not knowing a word of English. I’m sure they were discriminated against, taken advantage of. These people went on to have children raised in America. And now every generation knowing less of the heroes that enabled them to be Americans in the first place. Perhaps people might think of their brave family members when they meet someone new to our country.  And show them kindness.

but i doubt it.

Happy Memorial Day to all of America’s heroes.

Clever piece making an important point deceptively simply. Proud to see the Saltire in there!

Nicely stated. Of course a lot of the people coming over the Mexican border are from Central America, but what you say is true enough. Like you I am an American Mutt, born of people from different lands, including some who reached these shores in the early 17th century.

I wrote it as ignorant as it sounds on the news & because that seems to be the whole idea behind immigration throughout America’s history. Yes? I think it would be really cool if everyone put their origins together, just once, to have everyone realize that everyone came from somewhere. My English great (?) came to Massachusetts in the 17th century too. Thanks for your comment, Trentpmcd. ~amy

  4. But just like here in the U.K. nothing ever stops the ‘God of Retail’ for continuing its relentless journey of world domination! Enjoy the 4th.
