We worked on mosaics today, using paper squares. They tore up a race car like a puzzle & rebuilt in on top of the mosaic. The bottom three was a project about texture. The kids used a pallet knife to paint & then added bits of paper. They also pressed different textures into the wet paint. The kids are kindergarden, 1st grade & 2nd graders.

The kids have such wild imaginations. I wish they would nurture these energies into their adult lives, but sadly most of them never do.

Those nasty hormones change us all into self doubt people. I’ve learned to relax while doing art by watching the children creating without fear of failure, just enjoying the process…Adults are so afraid that they will fail any attempt at art. When I’ve taught adult art classes, I tell them if they start with the attitude that their creations are destined for the trash, they seem more at ease. They think they are the only ones learning things…but their freedom to explore inspires me. Most of what I’ve learned about art, has been taught to me by my art kids.

OK, the last piece of art, I would totally hang it up on my wall. Great fun combined with creativity ends up with the result of great pieces of art, I can see some hidden talents in the bunch. Thanks for sharing the results of the day!

Thank you so much, Eva! The last one was done by Owen. He is five years old. He does have talent. Almost everything I watch come into being, aways surprises me. The 7 year old broke his right wrist & created his using his left. He has a strong passion for creating. They inspire me.~amy

What wonderful artworks! I was just watching a TED talk about children and creativity that another blogging friend had linked. I think nurturing creativity in children is so important. I love the way you have had the children using ‘real’ art equipment like palette knives too. Thanks for sharing 🙂
