It is the first flower to pop out of the ground after the long winter months. The first flower we see is the same color as the sun. The sun we’ve all been waiting for. The sun to warm our toes. The sun that chases away the dull, colorless winter. Children find these treasures & bring them to their mothers as a gift. Keep that gift as though you hold the sun in your hands. Put the flower in a vase & place that vase in a place of honor. Spring, she cometh.
As the dandelion dies, it becomes a wish factory for almost any age. I mean, if you are still wanting wishes. My son blew this one & the wind carried the seeds away with all the wishes he holds in his ten year old heart.

I have childhood memories of the dandelion. As adults we place it in the weed category and do our best to eradicate it. Now that sounds familiar. Oh dear.

I was just thinking about dandelions (French: lion’s teeth). They are probably the preferred gift of little boys and little girls to mothers. I love them and the joy that children find in giving them.

I also love dandelions; when they appear in my ‘lawn’ (sometimes it’s more a meadow than a lawn), I leave them in to flower, so that I can then make a wish!
