Downtown Birmingham, Alabama…it is a pretty good looking mix of old & new architecture…and what-were-they-thinking buildings. My favorite is the old stuff, that seems to be where the love is. God is in the details. I think, with architecture, love is in the details. Older buildings, was a time when the craftsmen showed people what they could do. In hopes of future work. And for the love of making it. I see it everywhere in this city.
So…all those people who are throwing up buildings made of tin, when people see your building, they will know it was made with the dollar in mind. Money comes & goes…your building made of tin, the wolf (father Time & Mother Nature) will blow those buildings down. And no one will remember the building, or the people who paid to put them up.
but the craftsmen, the architects who put everything into a building…your work will withstand the wolf. Your buildings will be remembered & taken care of. I hope people start caring more about beauty & less about cost. If a company cannot afford to build something beautiful, why not renovate an older building?
When i get a commission, I put everything I have into it, I put time, love, thought and more time. The work is a piece of me. It’s mine. until…the work is done…not finished, but done. There is a huge difference between done & finished for any artist. When creating art, there are a thousand flaws the artist sees throughout their work. The work is done, when they can finally accept those flaws.
please renovate instead of building tin houses. it matters.
Good Post
