My 10 year old daughter’s artwork blows me away.
She started this project herself for the summer. We had very cheap paper on a roll. The paper was very smooth and very light. Sophie used sharpies to make this masterpiece. When she finished, she brought it upstairs so I could photograph it…as she passes through the kitchen, with the art flying behind her, it passes by the kitchen windows and I saw stained glass! “Sophie, put it up against the window, it looks just like stained glass” I still have this. Its torn and in rotten condition because I let her keep it taped up in her room. She has since given it to me. I’m having it framed.

This is beautiful. What technique and materials did you use? The6, 8 and 10 year olds I work with would love to try something like this.

Sophie made it up during spring break holidays. Cheap paper on a roll & regular sharpies. With something between the work and the table. The ‘technique’ she used was making a black frame & coloring it with something meaningful & a destressior. -amy

I want to make what Sophie made. I just go back from ToyR Us and bought a roll of paper for $7.99 but it seems really too heavy for the project. I did try it on wax paper and it does work with Sharpies, as long as you give it ample time to dry but it’s just not wide enough for my window. So went for the craft paper but it seems too heavy. Do you know the specific name of the paper?

Oh gosh, I’m so sorry. I bought that paper on a roll for my daughter, who was about 7 at the time, she is now going to be a senior! The paper has to be as thin as cheap office paper. So maybe if you looked at cheaper paper? Did you try the roll? Sophie let her brand new sharpies bleed into that paper. I wish I could help you. I’ve seen the same paper in a privately owned toy store, so it is still around.

Not dumb, I stumbled upon it in a toy store, it was with all the premade art stuff. I teach an art class & I thought how great it would be for the kids to do longer pieces of art work. You can try regular typing/copy paper, just put something under it so it wont bleed. The point is not to use drawing paper or an art paper because it is too think for the light to pass through the paper as easily. Good luck. -amy

Very different view from other side, like a negative. No one thought to ask that question, I guess everyone only thinks of themselves. Including me!! However it is very interesting from the backside, maybe if it’s made it should be considered a backside of the house work or color both sides.

It’s really interesting to see what comes out of young people’s minds, and this is a really inspiring piece. Thank you for your complements on Sophie’s art. She is amazing. She took the week plus weekend to make that. She also started with a 6 foot piece, I convinced her that she tire of the whole thing at that length, thus her art would become diminished because she would be bored with it. A huge relief to me when she cut it down to this length. Cheap rolled paper & sharpies. If you think he wouldn’t want to do it like sophie, you could try making it a one inch piece or something uniquely him. That would be cool, like a border…I’m babbling. I’ll check out your page.

She is scary smart. If I ask her ANYTHING about computer’s or my site…she says, “I can do that” I always answer, “Of course you can Sophie.” Amazing child. She came out that way.
