The Camellia Garden Club’s last meeting until next Sept was yesterday. They instilled the officers & President, these flowers were for them. The woman who bought them all carried them thus. Outstanding!

and all I had was my iPhone

and all I had was my iPhone

I, being the perfect daughter (dripping sarcasm, i write), visited with my mother (i am blessed) on Mother’s day. No camera, only iPhone (Ggrrr). I should know by now that I should never go home…(oops) to my parent’s house, without my (damn) camera. My mom made this piece of art (that I left behind :( when I went home). My mom never stops making art (never, ever). Her love of glass, paper & rocks are all over the house (gosh, its like a museum). Every nook & cranny filled bronze, wax, beads, and glass (every media known to man, really, if there is one they forgot, I would love to know it.). I will go back to my parent’s house to take pictures of all of the art. I will share & show how art is in my blood & bones. (and I thank God for it)

Look what my art students gave to me

Look what my art students gave to me

I didn’t want go to teach this morning, but I know once I get there, the kids always change my mood for the better. I had Kindergarten first-22 kids. We were talking about good deeds & one of the children said he wanted to make a painting & give it to me as his good deed. The kids all started doing it. I had a few that had written Ms. Amy & then changed their minds because their art was so great.
This project was drawn with oil pastels & then covered with bleeding tissue paper, dabbed with water.
I am going to have these hung up in my art studio so that I’ll remember how blessed my life is.

Bistro Two-Eighteen, owner Tom Saab (uncle)

This is our Uncle’s Bistro, Chef Tom Saab. I’ve never had better food. He was featured in The Birmingham News & in this Birmingham mag. & next month his Bistro will be featured in B metro. I’m sorry about not being able to read this featured in this mag. I took the picture yesterday inside. Anyway, if you are a local come & try it. If you come to BIrmingham for a night or two, try it!

The dream machine

The dream machine

At our Purim carnival (The Bible story about Esther), out of all the games, this one had the longest line. The kids would be peeking around the friend in front of them to see if the friend at the machine got a prize, hoping it wasn’t the stuffed animal they were wishing for. When the silver claw was no longer in the child’s control, everyone’s heart would sink. But, then dreams of their turn would come & they were sure they were going to win…
it was a dream machine for the parents too. It was free to take a turn because the Temple rented the machine. ;)

The Camellia Garden Club of Birmingham, Alabama

My Mother & Mother-in-love & law are both members.  Most of the members of this club are my Mothers’ age or older & much older. I am the newest member.  They are all beautiful & dress with such taste, I never hope to match.  My Mothers were in charge of the celebrations last month.  The Club’s 70th Anniversary.  My Mother Saab is an artist when it comes to food & its presentation.  The food was almost too beautiful to eat.  The flowers came from a woman who had beautiful & numerous Camellia bushes at her home.  My Mother is Vice President & is in charge of making the books, which are works of art & holds lots of information.  She has won awards for her books.  As a gift to all attending members she made boxes.  Mom placed these boxes randomly around the room.  I was early, so I was able to grab the box I loved the most, but never opened it until the end of the meeting & celebrations.

Inside was this wonderful quote from Budda.  But underneath my mom will place random images, mostly flower photographs she has taken & played with in photoshop to make them appear old, but in my box was an old photograph of my Grandmother, my uncle & my mother.  My mother is about 3 years old.  What a treasure.  I wonder out of the fifty or so boxes this very personal one, the only personal one of them all, found its way into my hands?mom's box Budda insidethebox

Sir Percival my Frog…pin

Sir Percival my Frog...pin

Yes, I watch a little to much ‘Merlin’ BBC’s five year series that just ended. When I was gifted this fine hunter, for in this knight’s net is a fly, his name jumped right into my wee brained head, Sir Percival. My mother, a champion in her own right, is the best gift giver & wrapper in all the land. It is usually a battle for me to open any of her gifts, because I think it couldn’t possible match what is on the inside, but it always does. Sir Percival was not wrapped in a traditional way-a box & wrapping paper, ribbon & bow. He was the bow, pinned up in gauzy white ribbon, front & center holding his own gauzy netting with his little dead fly. Sigh. My hero.

Sophie’s Hobbit poster

Sophie's Hobbit poster

I own a treasure. Sophie’s school project was to design a movie poster for a book she read. The dragon was painted in nail polish & added to the map. My husband matted & framed it.
